Bio

Dr Schellekens is currently a Principal investigator within Food for Health Ireland, and Lecturer in the department of Anatomy & Neuroscience, University College Cork. Her research focusses on the neuronal circuitry underlying the complex relationship between stress, mood and food intake. She investigates the pharmacology of centrally expressed G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), neuropeptides and gut hormones within the brain-gut axis, regulating the homeostatic and hedonic aspects of food intake and how these impact on stress-induced food reward behaviour.
