The Hook: A directly elected mayor with real power to reform and develop the Dublin region is vital, according to Dublin Chamber of Commerce. The comments followed the results of Dublin City Council’s ‘Your Dublin Your Voice’ survey which found that 61% of those surveyed were in favour of a directly elected mayor.

There are lectures and seminars by leading academics, readings by Seamus Heaney, John Banville, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, and others.

The Hook: The Irish Cancer Society, with campaign sponsor Crown Paints and media partner SPIN 1038 was delighted to hold the first ever Colour Dash in the Phoenix Park on Saturday, 27th July 2013. Over 2,000 participants dashed through the park and got splashed by volunteers throwing paint with each colour representing a different cancer.

Story Idea: Opinion poll reveals big majority of people wants the Government to deliver on its aid promises

The Hook:  In 2012, with Ireland in deep economic difficulty, Ipsos MRBI poll data showed that 82% of respondents still supported Ireland achieving its 0.7% aid promise by 2015. A similar poll in 2013 showed that support had dropped slightly, to 77%, meaning that nearly 4 out of every 5 people in Ireland want the Government to deliver on its aid promise. The poll revealed that a very large majority of people in Ireland – 77%  – think that “even in an economic down-turn, we have an obligation to invest in overseas aid”.
