Story Idea: Smart toys and Internet of things
Expert: Dr. Emanuel Popovici (Expert in Electronics) Lecturer, UCC.
The Hook: Improving the access and experience of interacting with toys for children with a range of disabilities, at a low cost. Due to the wide variety of disabilities, special customised interfaces are needed for each person based on their individual situation. The complexity of building such systems can vary according to the level of disability, and can become very expensive as a result. These factors can limit drastically the access to toys. Our aim is to bring at least a smile to kids of all ages, no matter what challenges they may face. To tackle the problem of cost, we are developing platforms that harness the latest advances in wireless sensor network and digital signal processing technology to develop low-cost, low-power intelligent interfaces between toys and children. Simple changes with endless potential on Galzacs.com

March 26, 2014 Posted in : Experts, Galzacs, Galzacs Guide

Galzac’s Guide to Expert Sources has been on the go for four years with the official brand being launched in June 2012. We’ve come so far in such a short space of time and we’re grateful to everyone who has been involved in the service.

Our sole aim has always been to connect people with certain skills, expertise and knowledge with the media. The way the service works is simple. Experts send us their story ideas and then we make sure that journalists all over Ireland receive them through our Galzac’s newsletter. The newsletter goes out first thing every Monday and reaches thousands of journalists.

The feedback we have received from both experts and journalists has been extremely positive.

So this got the Galzac’s team thinking about what we could do next. Our aim is to be constantly striving to give a better, more innovative service.

This resulted in us making a change to our website,  galzacs.com

Testimonial- Bozena Cierlik, UCC

March 25, 2014 Posted in : Experts, Galzacs, Galzacs Guide, Testimonial

Bozena Cierlik is a lecturer in the School of History at UCC. A Polish native, Bozena is an expert in European history and politics.

Recently, Bozena submitted a story idea to our Galzac’s newsletter, which we send out to thousands of journalists on every Monday morning.

Here was her story idea:

Story Idea: ”I support Putin in 154%”- Why do Russian artists so eagerly support Putin’s policy in Crimea?
Expert:
Bozena Cierlik (Expert in European Politics and History) Lecturer in School of History, UCC.
The Hook:
The list of Russian artists supporting Vladimir Putin is extremely long. Bozena Cierlik wonders why is this the case? Bozena references a quote from Yevtushenko, which highlights this current issue- “Poet in Russia is much more than poet” (Yevtushenko). Bozena believes that Putin needs artists because they’re the conscience of the nation. For more opinion on this topic, please contact Bozena Cierlik.

Bozena’s story was picked up by Liam Dumpleton at Tipp FM. He called the Galzac’s team looking for contact details for Bozena. The next day she did a 7-10 minute interview on the radio with presenter Seamus Martin. Bozena spoke about her story idea and about the international situation regarding Ukraine. She also touched on the conflict in the country and the political implications it could have on Europe.

You can listen to the full interview here from 20 minutes to the 31st minute.
