Our Galzac’s experts were very prevalent the Irish media in the past week in both print and broadcast and the national and regional circles also. Story Idea: Ireland’s economic recovery: what next?

The Hook: The European Commission will be holding a conference entitled ‘Ireland’s economic recovery: what next?’ at Cork City Hall on Friday November 28th. The conference will focus on the European Union’s arrangements for improved economic governance, aimed at creating and consolidating the conditions for growth across the EU. The Conference intends to provide those attending with an understanding of what these new arrangements are and the implications they will have for Ireland and for the Irish Economy. It will also look at Ireland’s Economic Policy and what its reform priorities should be in the years ahead in order to ensure the promotion of competitiveness and sustained economic growth in Ireland. Keynote speakers will include Tánaiste and Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton TD and Minister for Agriculture, Food, the Marine and Defence, Simon Coveney TD. A range of other senior academics, commentators and journalists will participate in the event to give their views on what lies ahead. Story Idea: Russians teaching young people the art of war
Expert: Bozena Cierlik (Expert in European Politics and International Affairs) Lecturer, School of History in UCC.
The Hook: Young people are being trained how to shoot and fight in training camps in Belarus under the guidance of Russian instructors. Pro-Russian paramilitary organisation are recognised by the Belorussian government and supported by more than 50% of population. Similar organisations are active in the Baltic States as well but are prosecuted by their respective governments. These types of groups played important role during the annexation of Crimea and in Donetsk. Are they the nucleus of the separatist organisations? Should Baltic States, Armenia, Moldova and Kazakhstan pay more attention?

Our Galzac’s experts were very prevalent the Irish media in the past week in both print and broadcast and the national and regional circles also. They made valuable contributions with interesting commentary on a host of issues in various media outlets including; Newstalk, RTÉ Television & Radio, Irish Times, Cork’s 96FM and the Sunday Business Post.

Some of the insightful stories of the last seven days amongst our Galzac’s experts included; People in poorer areas are twice as likely to die from cancer than that of more affluent areas, blocking of certain distasteful material by internet suppliers and the future of a women’s and children’s shelter, Clúid Alainn in Tallaght in serious doubt due to lack of funding.

The Hook:
Entrepreneurship lessons should be taught in schools to equip the next generation with the skills to safeguard the nation’s economic future. They should sit alongside maths, English and the sciences as a core subject on the national curriculum with the aim of encouraging dynamic business thinking, according to Amway’s Global Entrepreneurship Report, published today. According to new research from Amway seven is the perfect age to start learning.

Professor Thomas Cooney, a lecturer in entrepreneurship at Dublin Institute of Technology and board member of the Amway Global Entrepreneurship Report is available to comment on some of the common misconceptions about entrepreneurship.

Story Idea: Tackling sexism online to be discussed at major conference in Dublin Castle
Expert: Mary Cunningham (Expert in Health and Youth Culture) Director, National Youth Council of Ireland.
The Hook: Hosted by the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI), this major conference will be opened by Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr James Reilly, TD and will explore themes including working with young men; media and body image; tackling sexism online; the alchemy of working with young women; gender, transgender and sexuality; bringing ourselves to work; gender equality and global justice.

Tuesday 18th November 2014 

Story Idea: Irish Water Safety honours 220 recipients for saving lives at their annual Awards Ceremony
Expert: John Leech (Expert in Water Safety and Survival Skills) Chief Executive, Irish Water Safety.
The Hook: Thirty-five rescuers save 22 lives from dramatic near-death incidents will receive the SEIKO Just In Time Rescue Award in Dublin Castle on Tuesday 18th November 2014, from 3pm to 5pm. Mr Alan Kelly, Minister for Environment, Community & Local Government will present the Awards. Service Awards will be presented to Irish Water Safety volunteers recognising 2,220 years of service to 135 volunteers as well as life boatmen. Other awards include media, schools, community & Social responsibility, Dunlaoghaire Rathdown County Council was top Local Authority in promoting water safety.
