May 25, 2015 Posted in : Experts, Galzacs15, Irish Council for Social Housing

Story Idea: The Community on your front door – 20 million people across Europe celebrate Neighbours Day
Expert: Dr Donal McManus (Expert in Housing and Social Policy) Executive Director, Irish Council for Social Housing.
The Hook: Surveys about neighbours and the modern concept of neighbourhood tend to focus on the fact that many people today do not know their neighbour’s name, and that the sense of community spirit is evaporating.

Story Idea: ‘I see his pain but I can’t help’ – World MS Day
Expert: Dr Bozena Cierlik (Expert in Foreign Policy) Lecturer, School of History, University College Cork.
The Hook: My brother has MS. He is immobile, he is losing his sight and speech but his mind is perfect. We still discuss (I can barely hear and understand him) politics and history, soccer and basketball. I see his pain and I can’t help him. I read Lancet just to be up to date with medical progress but there is not much to hope. We have Tybaris, Savitex (still illegal here) but there’s not much research done. Why? It is not a ‘popular’ illness. It affects only white Caucasian population in Europe and North America. I look at my brother for the past 20 years helpless. He is only 40 and had to live his life through me and I am responsible for him all my adult life. I can’t even cry anymore.
